To many, New York is the center of the world (the center of the universe to New Yorkers). If anything happens anywhere it happens here. By default, if you live in New York you should be fully aware of everything going on in the world because you live in the center of the world. Well, for me New York has had the exact opposite effect. For two years I have lived in a bubble, completely oblivious to the world around me - that is until about a week ago. By shear luck, and the fact CNN has a monopoly on airport televisions, I saw the recap of the Democratic National Convention, and John McCain's Vice Presidential running mate announcement. Now I am ravenously devouring any piece of information I can get.
It is clear to me, and I hope clear to every other living, breathing, thinking, voting adult in the United States of America, this is one of the most important and decisive elections of our time. I am amazed by the media coverage and the unabashed expression of opinions rather than facts, but more than that I am amazed - sometimes impressed and sometimes appalled - at reaction of the voters.
In a google link I found a blog post entitled America's Hottest Govenor for President. The blog entry itself is just your typical liberal dronings, a regurgetation of that has been said since the announcement, with nothing new or intellegent to add. What I did find interesting though, were the comments made to this post. Of all the comments for or against Gov. Palin, this one is truly insightful.

Dear friends - I’m a Malaysian. America, despite her failings, is too important for freedom & human rights so the choice of president is all important. Obama is a nice chap with a good heart, trying to do good things. But remember the scene from Lord of the Rings - when Frodo asks Gandalf to bear the Ring? DO you remember Gandalf’s answer? It is so true. The same is true of Obama. These are dangerous times - the enemy wants to destroy freedom and replace it with a death cult. These are not Nazis or Commies, but far more dangerous adversaries with a philosophy that dements the mind - until even stoning to death is justifiable. McCain knows the value of freedom for it was taken away from him in Vietnam. a person like Obama will make a good president - but only in the future during a time of peace. But for now we need McCain - cos the enemy is at your gates.
