A Time for Change!

To many, New York is the center of the world (the center of the universe to New Yorkers). If anything happens anywhere it happens here. By default, if you live in New York you should be fully aware of everything going on in the world because you live in the center of the world. Well, for me New York has had the exact opposite effect. For two years I have lived in a bubble, completely oblivious to the world around me - that is until about a week ago. By shear luck, and the fact CNN has a monopoly on airport televisions, I saw the recap of the Democratic National Convention, and John McCain's Vice Presidential running mate announcement. Now I am ravenously devouring any piece of information I can get.
It is clear to me, and I hope clear to every other living, breathing, thinking, voting adult in the United States of America, this is one of the most important and decisive elections of our time. I am amazed by the media coverage and the unabashed expression of opinions rather than facts, but more than that I am amazed - sometimes impressed and sometimes appalled - at reaction of the voters.
In a google link I found a blog post entitled America's Hottest Govenor for President. The blog entry itself is just your typical liberal dronings, a regurgetation of that has been said since the announcement, with nothing new or intellegent to add. What I did find interesting though, were the comments made to this post. Of all the comments for or against Gov. Palin, this one is truly insightful.

Dear friends - I’m a Malaysian. America, despite her failings, is too important for freedom & human rights so the choice of president is all important. Obama is a nice chap with a good heart, trying to do good things. But remember the scene from Lord of the Rings - when Frodo asks Gandalf to bear the Ring? DO you remember Gandalf’s answer? It is so true. The same is true of Obama. These are dangerous times - the enemy wants to destroy freedom and replace it with a death cult. These are not Nazis or Commies, but far more dangerous adversaries with a philosophy that dements the mind - until even stoning to death is justifiable. McCain knows the value of freedom for it was taken away from him in Vietnam. a person like Obama will make a good president - but only in the future during a time of peace. But for now we need McCain - cos the enemy is at your gates.

Birthday Trivia

Although I have no know blood relation to Ransom E. Olds, the inventor of the Oldsmobile, we have a very significant connection. On August 26, 1950, exactly 30 years before I entered this world, R.E. Olds left this life.

crazy.

Read, Riting, Rithmatic

Could someone please explain to me HOW I made it through four years of college in a writing based major (Humanities) and a Masters program (80 page thesis) when I am a terrible writer?

Can You Believe This?

If you want to know about the otherside of the Olympic games read this.

Maybe I Didn't Want to know

A friend of mine had this ADD/ADHD test on his blog. I have always wondered if I had ADD, my mom has even questioned if I had ADD. So I thought it would be funny to find out what this test had to say.

Serious ADHD Likely!
Maybe I didn't really want to know........

The Benefits of Work

As many of you may know I am not particularly thrilled with my job, but even with all the drawbacks it does have a few benefits. One of which is learning fascinating yet completely useless information.
As part of my job I search the internet for new news on rare books and the auction world. Sometimes my research brings up very fascinating information that is completely irrelevant to the topic I am searching. Finding cool information (like this) is definitely one of the highlights of my day.
